“Manuvu is my senior thesis—a typography project composed of three typefaces that focus on the Indigenous culture of the Manobo tribe. The Manobos are primarily located in the northern and southern regions of Mindanao, Philippines. They have a rich cultural and artistic heritage.
Their traditional communication is rooted in iconography—the use of symbols to represent different aspects of their lives. This system is a vital part of their heritage; however, due to acculturation and modernity, both their culture and communication systems are fading from the awareness of younger generations.
Manuvu aims to reconnect Gen Z Manobos and other Gen Z Filipinos—whose primary link to their culture may be their dialect—with the Manobo culture by reviving its communication system through modern typography and iconography.” –Trixy Gosadan
